Research Overview

Our research focuses on understanding the fundamental biophysical principles governing the structure, organization, and dynamics of biological membranes. We develop advanced in vitro lipid membrane models to investigate how lipid composition, membrane asymmetry, cholesterol distribution, and interleaflet coupling influence membrane properties and functionality.

A central goal of our laboratory is to understand how the two leaflets of a lipid bilayer interact and how their distinct compositions regulate membrane organization, phase behavior, and domain formation. We also investigate how membrane physicochemical properties influence interactions with external agents, particularly nanoparticles, antimicrobial peptides, and reactive oxygen species.

To address these questions, we develop advanced experimental approaches and innovative membrane models to investigate the fundamental physicochemical principles governing membrane organization, dynamics, and interactions with external agents.

By bridging fundamental membrane biophysics with biologically relevant systems, our research aims to uncover the physical mechanisms underlying membrane organization, molecular interactions, and nanoparticle–membrane interactions, contributing to the development of innovative approaches in nanomedicine and biotechnology.
